A short history of Providence

Providence Country Club was established in 1989 as a private club anchored by an original Dan Maples golf course. From the outset, the community was planned with a discipline that has aged unusually well: generous lots, mature tree preservation, understated brick and stone architecture, and a clubhouse sited to give every arrival a sense of quiet arrival.

Over its first two decades, Providence became a favorite of families relocating to Charlotte's exploding south corridor — physicians, financial services executives, and multi-generational Southern families who wanted golf, tennis, pools, and dining under one address without the formality of the city's oldest clubs.

The course evolves

The club credits Mike Gleason with redesigning the original layout before architect Kris Spence completed a major renovation in 2018. The work updated the course while retaining its mature parkland setting and strategic character.

Community character

Providence is defined more by tone than by scale. Streets are quiet in the mornings, then softly active in the afternoons with junior golf, tennis lessons, and children walking to the pool. There is a rhythm to it — a Sunday-dinner rhythm — that families arrive here specifically to find.
