What Providence Country Club actually is.
Providence Country Club is two things with one name. The first is a private members' club in South Charlotte built around an 18-hole Dan Maples golf course, with racquet courts, a pool complex, fitness facilities and a dining room that carries a full social season. The second is the residential community that grew up around and beyond that course — several hundred homes on curving, heavily canopied streets, governed by its own homeowners association.
Most confusion about the community comes from collapsing those two into one. The original Dan Maples layout was later redesigned by Mike Gleason and renovated by Kris Spence in 2018. The community sits in the southeastern quadrant of Mecklenburg County, close enough to Waverly, Rea Farms, Blakeney and Ballantyne that most errands are a short drive, and within reach of SouthPark for anything those centers do not cover. Every owner in the residential community is subject to the association's covenants and pays its assessments. Only club members pay club dues. The two are frequently conflated in listings and casual conversation, and the difference matters when you are underwriting a purchase.
